A handy bookmarklet for creating sitename.com@yourdomain.com email addresses

If you’ve got your own domain and are in the habit of using unique email addresses (with a wildcard so it all forwards) for every site you register at (so you can cut ‘em off if they spam you, etc.) Here’s a handy bookmarklet I just made:

→ Make site email (drag it to your toolbar)

How to use it:

  1. Click in the email address field on a page
  2. Click bookmarklet (or better, use Apple-1 if it’s in the first position in Safari, etc.)

What it does:

  1. Parses URL for the site you’re on to cut away everything but domain and TLD
  2. Adds @YOURDOMAINNAME to the site’s domain
  3. Puts this new email in the the field selected

From running websites I know at least a few others use this format for making unique email addresses, so hopefully someone will find this useful. It can also be easily adapted for gmail-style forwarders (e.g. username+website.com@gmail.com)

I find this thing crazy useful and can’t believe I didn’t make it sooner.
